The Programme
This course is run at the Academy of Music and Sound in Exeter. The course is split into six units or modules: recording, sequencing, learning about aspects of music, project work or study of the music business and a final major performance that you will help to organise. The main aim of the programme is to introduce you to productions which have a music emphasis so that you can learn how to prepare for gigs.
The Programme Content
The course is split into units or modules. The modules all
relate to music but some are aspects you may not have thought of.
You may study units that include or relate to music performance;
recording, sequencing, learning about aspects of music, project
work or study of the music business and a final major performance
that you will help to organise. The main aim of the programme is to
introduce you to productions which have a music or music technology
emphasis so that you can learn how to prepare for gigs. Other
students will help to crew and organise these productions. The
important thing to remember is that you can do this course as
either a Musical Performer or as a Music Technician.
The course is assessed through coursework which includes;
rehearsal, performances, research, written assignments, diary
keeping, discussion and evaluation and there are no exams. Over one
year you will compile a portfolio of coursework which is marked by
two lecturers and a sample is verified by an

Four GCSEs at grade E and above.
Costs
You will be expected to play your own instrument and keep your own copies of CDs and mini discs, we provide electronic drum kits but you would need to provide your own kit for performances.

Progression
In the past, students from other BTEC Diplomas have progressed to the Level 3 Diplomas. From there you can progress to Higher Education or straight into a profession such as a local/national performer, technician or 'roadie'.
