This Integrated Study Day includes Basic Life Support, Moving and Handling, Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) and Infection Control. Mandatory Training is one of the Department of Health 'Core Standards' and is an important aspect of the Inspection carried out in the Private Sectory by the Healthcare Commission. Item C11b of the 'Core Standards' state that 'Healthcare organisations must ensure that staff concerned with all aspects of the provision of healthcare participate in mandatory training programmes'.

Staff who have undertaken the Mandatory Training are required to update their skills annually.

The study day is designed to prepare/update carers who are working in all categories of health care who care for vulnerable adults, move and transfer clients, or may need to give basic life support to clients and who need to be proactive in control of infection.

The day is suitable for both registered and unregistered carers, who in the course of their work require up to date knowledge and practical experience of these issues.

This study day fulfills the principles of the Common Induction Standards 2005 (CISi) and would be ideal for updating existing staff and for equipping new staff members with the skills they require to work safely in a health care environment.

The study day will be facilitated by Lecturers/Trainers who work in both Higher Education/University and Clinical Practice.

- Moving and handling clients in a health care setting
- Hands on training and practice
- Actions in an emergency situation
- Basic techniques for maintaining respiration and circulation
- Client safety, maintaining an airway, controlling blood loss
- Artificial ventilation, hands on practical sessions
- Current legislation
- Categories and indicators of abuse
- Responding and reporting abuse
- Sharing confidential information
- Code of practice and policies
- Infection control policy and legislation
- RIDDOR
- COSHH
- Effective hygiene and protective clothing
- Instruments and equipment
- Clinical waste and spillage
- Common infections and diseases
- Disease Transmission

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
