Palliative care (from the Latin ‘palliare’: to cloak) focuses on the relief of pain and other symptoms and problems experienced in serious illness. The goal of palliative care is to improve quality of life, by increasing comfort, promoting dignity and providing a support system to the person who is ill and those close to them.
The Distance Learning Palliative Care Certificate is designed to be accessible for freestanding study by non-specialists in this area and to facilitate integration within employer training programmes in health and social care.

Students will complete 4 units: understanding palliative care; understanding a person's needs in a palliative care context; supporting a person with their physical care needs; care during the final hours of life and bereavement care.

Previous Knowledge Required
You do not need any prior learning knowledge or experience to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone who wishes to take part in a highly rewarding home study course, although you would be expected to have a reasonable standard of literacy.
You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with the full support of your Tutor.
