Course Description

If you want to develop your knowledge of Neurological Conditions so that you can embark on a rewarding career or you are already working in a related field and want to improve your career prospects, then this is the course for you.

Neurological conditions are disorders caused by damage or injury to the brain, which includes the spinal cord, nerves and neurons. There are many neurological conditions which can cause an individual to face challanges and poor quality of life, dignity and independence. People who have a neurological condition must learn to live life as fully as possible and may need support to do so. It is the role of the care worker to facilitate this support and in order to do this, they need to have a full understanding of different neurological conditions.

This Distance Learning Neurological Conditions course will look at how the brain works and how it plays a part in every function of the body, which includes movement, thought, language, memory and controlling of the senses. This will help you understand the impact that neurological conditions may have on an individual. Neurological conditions can be very diverse with regards to how they affect individuals, but some of the more common occurring ones that carers are likely to come across are studied in detail, including any causes of the condition, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and how the condition may affect affect a person’s life. The student is also given “good practice” tips and advice on how to work with a person who is affected by any of these conditions.

Previous Knowledge Required

You do not need any prior learning knowledge or experience to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone who wishes to take part in a highly rewarding home study course, although you would be expected to have a reasonable standard of literacy.

You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with the full support of your Tutor.

Assessment is carried out by submitting a series of tutor marked assignments and a multi choice examination.
