General & First Session:

If you already have a 2B pencil and an A3 cartridge sketchbook please bring them but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class. Kae is unable to offer refunds for any material, equipment or books if the class is subsequently closed. As the coures progresses, move on to other media – watercolour paints, pastes and pen which are discussed as they arise.

Course Aim & Objective:

Broaden your awareness of drawingand painting techniques and increase your skills. Because this class is mixed ability and experience, the course is project-led by a wide variety of subjects. From each project you will be able to learn and practice relevant skills and gain insights and ideas from your fellow learners.

Assessment:

To have sketch/note books for ongoing studies and seek reference material when appropriate. Work is assessed continuously on a one-to-one basis and through group discussion/feedback from each other and tutor.

On this course you will gain the following skills and knowledge:

  • Increase your awareness of the potential of different methods, tools and materials, from the simple beginnings of the humble pencil to glorious use of full colour
  • Improve your visual awareness and skills by the opportunity for exploration and discovery
  • Develop your use of charcoal, pastels, inks and a variety of mark-making tools
  • Develop water based painting techniques, preferably using acrylics but also watercolour and other materials
  • Develop your knowledge of current and art history through external visits to exhibitions in London (one a term - organised on a non-teaching day). These visits may initiate the subject for a project.
  • Become more confident in order to be experimental and creative in your approach and to develop your own style of working
