This course is aimed at complete beginners and those at an intermediate level who may have had some previous drawing and painting experience. The course is divided into 3 terms. In the first term, learners will - be introduced to materials and equipment - develop drawing techniques in pencil, including basic measuring techniques - learn colour mixing skills - develop watercolour techniques, including wet-in-wet, resist methods, flat and graded washes. In the second term, learners will - further develop drawing techniques including perspective and ellipses - be introduced to acrylic painting techniques. In the third term, learners will - be introduced to drawing in charcoal, soft and oil pastels - develop mixed media techniques, including textured surfaces and ink. By the end of the course, learners will have gained experience and confidence in the use of art materials and creative methods. What materials or equipment need to be provided by the student? Learners are asked to bring to class soft pencils, 2B, 4B, etc and an A3 cartridge paper sketch pad. Any additional costs the student is likely to incur? Entry CriteriaThere are no specific entry requirements other than an interest in the subject. Our recreational courses generally appeal to learners aged 19 and older.
Progression DetailsIt is hoped that having completed this first course students will feel encouraged to attend further courses at the college and feel motivated to go on to produce their own work
