Anyone with an interest in Drawing, Painting– both figurative and abstract, in learning how to draw from scratch, use colour, develop creative talents either for pleasure or with a view to studying at a higher level is welcome to join this course.
What will I study?
The course will follow a structured approach, with an emphasis on exploring and developing
creative qualities while acquiring drawing & painting skills.
Drawing will explore line, tone and texture while developing basic observational drawing skills in
still life, landscapes and portraiture. Painting will explore the fundamental aspects of colour use
and mixing, creating tones and shades, drawing with paint, creating the illusion of form and depth,
while creating both imaginative and observational work.
By the end of the course you should be able to do the following:
Have gained or acquired confidence in both your drawing and painting skills. Become more
knowledgeable about art forms and artists and be able to create drawings and paintings from initial
ideas to finished artwork.
How is the course taught?
The tutor will do an initial assessment (an individual learning plan) to discover your starting point, find out what you want to get out of the course, take any previous knowledge you have into account, and plan how best to support you. He will demonstrate techniques, show inspiring examples and provide hand-outs to support your learning. You will learn by experience, demonstration, group work - and practice! You will learn how to use a range of specialist drawing and painting materials and techniques.
How will I be assessed?
Your progress will be reviewed by regular feedback from the tutor, discussions, self-assessment, group and peer work as well as the finished sketches, drawings and paintings.
By the end of the course what vocational skills will I obtain?
Observational and drawing skills– the ability to illustrate your thoughts and ideas.
What materials do I need for the course?
