Description

This course is for young people who want to take the first step into the area of art and design in order to pursue a career in this field. You will be able to try out different materials and look at new techniques and processes. The course covers the following areas such as design, drawing, painting, textiles, graphics, ceramics, fashion, sculpture, photography and moving image.

You will explore the use of materials, techniques and processes across a wide range of design areas. You will also be able to specialise in two areas of art and design to complete a personal project.

End Qualification:

BTEC Diploma in Art and Design (Level 1)

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

3 GCSEs at grade E or above or entry qualifications at entry level 3. You will be required to successfully pass an interview and we need you to be able to show us that you have an enthusiasm and interest in art and design. You will need to bring examples of your craft and art work. Individual cases will be considered on their own merits.

Assessment:

The work on the course is project/assignment based and assessment is continuous throughout the course. Some units will be subject to external assessment. The course is completed with a personal project.

Progression from this course:

On successful completion of this course you will be able to progress to a BTEC Diploma in Art & Design (Level 2). The course opens up opportunities in many career areas such as retail, design and art.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. There will be visits during the course, which will be a maximum of £48. Students will also need to purchase a basic art kit costing approximately £25.

Additional Information:

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be eligible to apply to the college's learner support fund for financial support with the costs associated with your studies.
