Description

Want to work with animals? Want to be paid as you learn? Then the Apprenticeship programme is for you!

While working full or part time in an animal care establishment, you will come into College on day release for about 12-18 months. During this time you will gain the theory and practical skills needed for the course assessments. You will also work with the wide variety of animals here at College.

The Diploma level 2 forms part of the Apprenticeship scheme: to complete the whole apprenticeship, you will also need to gain key skills and industrial certificates.

Course Content

  • Maintaining the health and well−being of animals
  • Feeding and watering animals
  • Deliver basic treatment
  • Health and safety at work
  • Grooming animals
  • Setting up and maintaining animal accommodation
  • Moving, exercising and restraining animals
  • First Aid at Work
  • Safe lifting and manual handling
  • Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy - Level 1

Entry Requirements

Good standard of written work, interest in animals and working in the industry. NVQ 1 or GCSEs grade A to D.

What Next?

Progression onto Diploma Level 3 (Advanced Apprenticeship) if you gain employment or training with supervisory responsibility. Employment within the sector or allied industries including animal technician, kennel and cattery worker, animal sanctuary worker or pet shop assistant

Price

While you are on an Apprenticeship, your employer pays you a salary and supports you whilst you undertake your training.

The National Apprenticeship Service will pay the costs of your training depending on your age.
