Entry Requirements:

Students should be at least 16 years old
and be able to show an enthusiastic and positive interest in an
animal career.
External applicants will need 1 GCSE at grade C or above in
English, maths or a science plus at least 3 grade D GCSEs.
Candidates must have at least a grade D in English. Completion of a
level 2 certificate in science or animal care plus 1 GCSE at grade
C or above in English, maths or a science is acceptable.
Internal applicants will require a full level 1 qualification and
full successful completion of existing course footprint (i.e
functional skills) supported by a strong attendance and behaviour
record.
For some students an agreement will be reached to comply with an
academic contract from the start of the course. Consideration will
be given to exceptional circumstances.
Assessment:
This programme is continually assessed by a combination of written tests, projects, assignment work and demonstration of competence in a range of practical tasks.
Progression from this course:
Successful learners can progress onto a level 3 programme of study providing they gain merit/ distinctions grades in core subjects. This will be discussed with learners via their individual learning plan whilst on the programme. Progression will be dependent on individual learner performance and course director decision. Employment opportunities include - kennel and cattery work, nursing assistants, welfare work etc.

Course Costs:
All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information.
