About This Course

Combining learning with work is a great idea for all the bright sparks among you. It makes sense to get working in the industry you want to be in straight after school. And at Gloucestershire College, finding a suitable employer to help you achieve your apprenticeship is made easy. Simply apply through the Gloucestershire College Apprenticeship Unit and they will help you find a firm to work for while you learn. But that’s not the best part. Thanks to the great facilities available at the college you’ll still benefit from hands-on, practical experience. The College’s construction department is purpose-built, and available to students studying electrics are cubicles fitted out with lights, baths and heating systems, all for you to practice on. This is a three year course during which you’ll be working towards achieving your C&G 2330 Level 2 certificate. The units you’ll study include: wiring systems, appropriate theory and regulations, health and safety, science and principles, practical work and assignments, testing and inspection. The course is half theory, half practical work and assessment is based on a range of practical and theoretical tasks set for you. You will also be taught key skills. Key skills are a range of skills that help you to succeed in education, employment, lifelong learning and personal development. Key skills qualifications are in Communication, Application of numbers and ICT and are an integral part of your learning experience..Employers value these qualifications and staff at the College will help you gain these vital skills. As part of your assessments, our team of trained lecturers will set tasks that have to be completed within a certain amount of time. This ensures that when you leave the apprenticeship, you’ll be fit to work in the real world and know the real expectations placed on you by both employers and customers alike.

Additional Notes

You’ll need to wear safety shoes (not trainers) and also a set of drawing equipment and a scientific calculator. Tutors recommend you purchase the 17th Edition Regulations book and the On Site Guide book too.

Entry Criteria

You will need three GCSE grades A* to C in English , Math and Science to be considered for the apprenticeship. As part of your interview you will undertake assessments both practical and theory so we can assess your level of ability and provide the necessary support for the start of your programme. . It’s a three year course and when you finish, you’ll leave with a Level 2 apprenticeship qualification. If you’re serious about a career as an electrician, this course is a must.

Progression Details

Once you’ve completed the course you can specialise and study Inspection or take a PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) course. You can also apply for the level 3 or level 4 course in site supervisory.
