What is the Course About?

We have a varied programme of Painting courses which are suitable for all abilities.

Watercolour/Any Medium Landscape Painting courses are available at various locations around the Island with Paul Parker. They cover basic techniques of drawing, painting and design and the opportunity to work in more detail as well as develop individual skills and style. Course includes more advanced techniques for colour mixing, composition, balancing tones, use of gouache paints, pastels, oils and acrylics.

What is the Course About?

Drawing and Painting courses are available at Ramsey Youth & Community Centre and The Nunnery. Learn basic/advanced drawing and painting in pencil and watercolour techniques with Deborah Houlgrave.

Learn to Draw and Paint for Pleasure with Des Clague. Courses are held at St Ninian's Lower School, Bemahague, Onchan and Ramsey Youth & Community Centre. Suit beginners or near beginners. Covers basic techniques of drawing and painting in pencil and watercolour. Colour-mixing, landscape, still-life - fruit, vegetables and flowers and portrait drawing.

Life Drawing - All Abilities - suitable for beginners with some experience of other forms of drawing/painting. On this course there will be a variety of short and long poses with male or female models. There will be instruction into the basic approach to drawing the figure, understanding proportion, using and understanding tone. You will be introduced through various ways of looking at the figure and translating this onto paper using different materials.

All our courses are informal and fun.

Students are required to provide their own art materials and equipment. Students will receive an updated equipment list.



What Subjects will I study?

Depending on which course you enrol on, subjects can include drawing from direct observation, life model, flowers and fruit. How to work with a limited palette and how to observe and appreciate art more fully.
