Who is this programme for?

Teachers in all sectors of education (qualified and non-qualified) who are interested in their own learning for the benefit of their students. There are different pathways through the programme, depending on your experience and the context in which you work.

Entry requirements

A good first degree and strong references from appropriate referees. You should be teaching in the UK for the duration of the programme. Before we offer you a place, you will need to attend a group interview and submit a piece of reflective writing or, if you are an IOE PGCE graduate, provide a satisfactory reference from your PGCE tutor.

How are you assessed?

By coursework assignments of up to 5,000 words (including professional development portfolios, presentations, a research proposal and critique of a research article, a critical evaluation of teaching materials and approaches, a close analysis of classroom practice, and a reflective journal), and a 10,000-word report or a 20,000-word dissertation.

Attendance

Mixed mode, including online learning and occasional evening and Saturday face-to-face sessions.

  • teachers from the early years to adult education
  • middle leaders and senior leaders
  • local authority advisers.

More information

Applicants usually:

  • have a good honours degree or equivalent
  • have successfully completed initial teacher training and/or gained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • are teaching (full-time or part-time) in the UK for the duration of the programme
  • have strong references from appropriate referees.
