This core module for MA Education, Health Promotion and International Development is undergoing substantial revision (the previous title of the module was: Participatory Planning and Project Management of Health Promotion in the Context of International Development) The aims and learning outcomes of this revised core module are: • To support students through wide-reading, discussion and investigation of practice, to develop a critical awareness of the: o Factors that shape and influence health and wellbeing o Nature of health promotion and the importance of participatory practice o Key features and elements of project planning and proposal development focusing on the promotion of health and wellbeing in low- and middle-income country contexts • By the end of the module, students who engage in sessions and carry out essential readings should be able to: o Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of health and wellbeing, health promotion, participatory practice and proposal writing o Apply what they have learned to a health-related problem or issue of relevance to them o Demonstrate their skills in proposal writing Subject to re-validation, the module will be offered as an intensive course (over one week) with pre and post module e-learning activities. The module will be assessed by coursework, which is likely to include a critical review of key themes and concepts addressed in the module and the preparation of a project proposal focusing on the promotion of health and wellbeing in low- and middle-income country contexts.
