For participants to be accepted onto this module, they must provide evidence of prior study in anatomy and physiology.

Students must participate in the formative components of the module in order to successfully pass the module.

HRBG6001 Aromatherapy: Using Essential Oils to Promote Health and Wellbeing (20 credits at level 6)

Intended learning outcomes
  1. To critically analyse and evaluate the science and safety of essential oils.
  2. To investigate and critically appraise the physiological and psychological effects of essential oils.
  3. To research and practise the administration of essential oils to promote health.
  4. To evaluate types of evidence that inform treatment planning.
  5. To apply and critically evaluate the use of essential oils in your field of practice.

Course summary

Creating legislative documents for aromatherapy practice, chemistry of essential oils and pharmacokinetics, blending of oils and treating patients/clients holistically, physiology of olfaction and exploring individual responses to smell. Cautions, contraindications and adaptations for safe effective essential oil use, carrier mediums to administer essential oils.
