This course is designed to give students the opportunity to develop their creative and technical skills in 3D design to a very high level. 3D Design involves the design and prototyping of functional consumer products, objects, jewellery and accessories, models, furniture, interiors and environments (civic, public and commercial spaces).
Entry Requirements
You will need to be at least 18 years of age on 1st September in the year you start the course.
Students must have completed 2 years post-16 study and have gained:
- 120 UCAS points (including one GCE A Level or equivalent)
- 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English Language and Maths
- Portfolio of work showing your interest and potential ability
What will I be doing on the course?
- Model making, prototyping building, drawing conventions and projections, workshop skills, desktop publishing and computer aided design
- Product, furniture, interior design, jewellery design and associated crafts
- Evaluating practitioners from the point of view of their use of creative form and languages
- Personal development skills, history of design, critical analysis, research and essay writing
- Business Practice covers business planning and marketing strategies
- Work placement activity and work-related project
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continuous throughout the programme, including
Formative and Summative assessment (tutor, self/peer assessment).
All assessments are subject to verification through moderation and
the University of Hertfordshire Examination Boards.
What will I need?
Equipment and reading lists are provided prior to commencing the course. Student are encouraged to develop their own individual practice and purchase materials, equipment and books accordingly.
What can I do next?
- Successful completion of the foundation degree you can choose to enter employment
- Progress onto level 5/6 of the relevant BA Honours Degree in Product Design or Architecture Interior, and Design or Industrial Design or Model Design or Contemporary Applied Arts at the University of Hertfordshire or another institution
