Full Description:

Who is it for?

This course is those who have a Foundation Degree and would like to ‘top-up’ this award to a BA (Hons) Business Management. This general Business Management Degree programme is designed for those who want to take their knowledge and experience of business principles and practice to a higher level. It is equally appropriate for people looking for a career in the private and public sector and for those who are considering developing their own business ventures. There are two types of module programmes (pathways) offered. The pathways are as follows:

(1) Course Outline for FdA Business Management progression route to a BA (Hons) in Business Management (F5323)

Applicants for this route will normally possess a FdA in Business Management This credit-based modular programme has been designed with compulsory modules. The 120 credit module catalogue for business programmes includes:

Semester 1

  • Management Accounting (20 credits)
  • Strategic Management (20 credits)
  • Dissertation (30 credits)
  • Entrepreneurship (20 credits)

Semester 2

  • Ethics (10 credits)
  • Dissertation
  • International Business (20 credits)

(2) Course Outline of alternative FdA progression route to a BA (Hons) in Business Management (F0012)

This award provides an alternative route for FdA (240 credits) students. This pathway is for those with a foundation degree that may not be Business Management, but who have any suitable foundation degree.

Also, this pathway is available as an option for full-time students on the 3 year BA who

  • a) prove an appropriate level of access to and support from an employer/organisation and
  • b) express a preference to do so.

Modules studied are:

Semester 1

  • Dissertation Project (60 credits)
  • Strategic Management (20 credits)
  • Entrepreneurship (20 credits)

Semester 2

  • Marketing Consultancy or International Business (20 credits)
  • Dissertation Project

Methods of Teaching and Learning

Lectures, demonstrations, presentations, seminars, group work, simulations, case-studies and self-study are important components of the learning experience.

Workload

You will be embarking upon a challenging course. You will need to balance your personal situations (home and paid work) with the amount of degree work you are required to cover during the course. You will need to attend lectures and related workshops. Furthermore you will need to conduct private study after these sessions. This could be an extra 12 or more hours per week (depending on how well you organise your private study).
