What does the course include?
This course had a 100 per cent pass rate in 2011/2012.
GCSE English is divided into three areas:
- Speaking and Listening (an oral assessment)
- Reading (the study of selected poems, a Shakespeare play and a novel)
- Writing (a range of tasks, including short-story and autobiographical assignments)
Our evening classes are primarily for adult students although we can accomodate 16-18s if appropriate in our evening classes and adult students in daytime classes.

What do I need to get on this course?
A previous grade D in English Language and a free writing assessment. If you are taking GCSE English for the first time, you will be required to take a literacy diagnostic test, as well as the free writing assessment.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through external examination (60%), written and oral coursework (40%).
In addition the written and oral coursework will be compiled under controlled conditions.
Where does it lead?
With a selection of other GCSEs at grade C or above, GCSE English can lead to advanced-level study or to further employment opportunities.
