What does the course include?

This course provides a sound introduction to the counselling profession and the setting that counsellors work in. You will learn about the professional framework, ethics and the range of skills that the counsellor uses. Theoretical perspectives will be further developed on this course including the person-centred approach and some other models.

The ‘Counselling Studies’ course prepares you to progress to the Level 4 Diploma.

This course is available for concessions, and requires an interview.

What do I need to get on this course?

You will need to have completed the ‘Level 2 Cert in Counselling Skills’ or equivalent qualification and/or by interview if you have relevant the academic background and/or work experience.

How will I be assessed?

You will study the following units: ethical framework, working with theory, skills and self-awareness, counselling and mental health, feedback, reflection and supervision.
You will be assessed on your coursework and observation of skills practice as well as a short exam.

Where does it lead?

This course forms a preparation for professional counselling training and is suitable if you wish to progress to the ‘Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling’. This course is eligible for SFA funding.
