Who is the course for?

The CPCAB Level IV Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling is comprised of 420 Guided Learning Hours taught over two years. It includes a practice placement providing 100 hours of supervised counselling practice and a minimum of ten hours personal therapy. The course will be taught by two highly experienced trainers who are BACP accredited counsellors and counselling supervisors.

Now in their 18th year of operation, they are the only awarding body in Europe to specialise in the field of counselling. They are one of the largest awarding bodies in this field. All CPCAB qualifications have been updated and revised in 2010 to reflect the most recent research findings on the effectiveness of counselling and to anticipate the proposed requirements of statutory regulation.

What will I study?

Aims

The course aims to provide trainees with the knowledge and skills expected of a professional counsellor working in an agency or as part of a team. In particular students will have opportunities to:

  • Engage in personal development activities
  • Develop and apply their counselling skills
  • Extend their knowledge of counselling theory
  • Work within an ethical framework

Models of Counselling
The course will provide an integrative approach to counselling: the core model will be the Person Centred Approach but students will also explore Transactional Analysis and Existential Psychotherapy.

Course Content
The course will include modules on:

  • Working ethically, safely and professionally as a counsellor
  • Working within a counselling relationship
  • Working with client diversity in counselling work
  • Working within a user-centred approach to counselling
  • Working with self-awareness in the counselling process
  • Working within a coherent framework of counselling theory and skills
  • Working self-reflectively as a counsellor

How will the course be delivered?

The course will run on a Thursday evening, from 4pm until 9pm. In addition there will be two non-residential and one residential weekend each year. A minimum attendance of 80% is required to complete this qualification.The course will be delived in the University Centre on the main campus in Blackburn

Course Entry Criteria

Candidates must have acquired both CPCAB’s Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (CSK-L2) and CPCAB’s Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST-L3), or their equivalent to enrol on this Level IV Diploma. Participants must be over the age of 19 (as stipulated by CPCAB).

An informal chat with the course leader is required before any person will be entitled to attend on this course.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

• More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
• 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
• 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
• 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
• Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

How much does it cost?

The course fee for enrolment onto this course is £1,500.00 per year (inclusive of CPCAB registration fees). Course fees as paid yearly.
