This course is delivered within sheltered accommodation centres and is particularly popular for those that have suffered from a stroke, heart attack or have other physical disabilities whereby mobility is limited. With the aid of music and a range of small pieces of hand equipment the course is designed to give you a greater understanding of how to exercise safely within your own capabilities. Regular exercise has so many health benefits and can even help alleviate stress and anxiety. This course aims to help individuals achieve a good posture and to help with: - co-ordination - balance - mobility - strengthening of muscles - improving flexibility - prevention of falls Our tutor, Sue Davies has been with the college delivering gentle exercise classes for thirty years. Sue is on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) which is a national register for qualified instructors, coaches, trainers and teachers who have achieved government approved qualifications and training. She is also Otago (later life training) qualified which is particularly recognised by the NHS. Sue will encourage you to identify small, realistic, achievable goals to work towards throughout the course in order to monitor your progress and achievement within the group. By the end of the course you will have made pleasing progress, enjoyed yourself and achieved some of or all of the goals set as well as having gained an understanding of the benefits and fun of regular exercise. There are no additional costs associated with this course.

Entry CriteriaThis course is for adults aged 19 or above. If you feel you would benefit from a very gentle exercise class you may be able to enrol. You are advised to seek advice and approval from your GP before embarking on an exercise class and you will be asked to complete a health and fitness form by the college. This will enable our tutor to ensure all exercises are suitable and appropriate dependent on your abilities and/or limitations.
Progression DetailsYou may wish to join further Gentle Keep Fit classes and continue to set yourself new goals or you may wish to progress laterally to new physical activities. Your tutor will be able to advise you of any follow on or suitable alternatively funded courses.
