Case StudiesKim Davenport Business Development and Operations Landside Manager Gloucestershire Airport Having joined Gloucestershire Airport in 1982 in the Air Traffic Control department, Kim has worked her way through the company and is now Business Development and Operations Landside Manager. Operating as an airport for the past 75 years, Gloucestershire Airport (previously known as Staverton Airport) provides passenger and training flights. It is the busiest general aviation airport in the country employing 48 people with 25% being under the age of 25. Having worked closely with Gloucestershire College for the past few years, Gloucestershire Airport currently has two of our very own apprentices. They have also taken on two of our ex-Travel and Tourism students on a full time, permanent basis. The airport offers visits each year to our Travel and Tourism students giving them a small glimpse into the industry. Beyond the most obvious careers of Flight Attendants and Pilots, airports can offer a whole host of other careers such as Air Traffic Controllers, Aircraft Engineers, Ground Handling Staff, Airport Fire Fighters, Security Staff and Customer Service. Kim says: The travel and tourism and aviation industry has given me so much over the years that I really enjoy bringing young people into the industry, enabling them to see what it has to offer and how exciting and interesting it is to work in. We work really closely with Gloucestershire College and are always impressed by the standard of students that come from the college; they all have excellent skills and basic knowledge of the industry. We have recruited two ex-Gloucestershire College Travel and Tourism students who are valued members of our team and who are excellent role models for current and future students looking to get into this industry.
