Case Studies

Having successfully completed his BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, George is now studying a Sports Coaching course at the University of Gloucestershire. “I really enjoyed my time at Gloucestershire College. I chose to study at GC because it had a Sport Academy and because the staff seemed really energetic and supportive. The best thing about the course I studied was the friends I met and the staff. I hope in the future to begin a career in the sport industry and I know that my time spent with GC and the skills that I have learnt will contribute to me achieving my goal.” Rachel Slater (former L3 Sport student) I am currently studying Physical Education and Sports Studies at the University of Worcester after the impact Gloucestershire college sports department had on my educational life. The sports department at Gloucestershire College provided me with many opportunities which I would never have gained if I had stayed at school. The course aided me in assignment writing and this is vital now that I am studying my degree, gave me the chance to gain numerous qualifications in a variety of sports and areas of sport, furthering my chances to help coach teams and volunteer at sports clubs and providing me with a greater chance of developing my degree onto a teaching pathway and also presented me with the opportunity to work with a range of abilities and age groups in the sport industry. College wasn't only about the academic, it was also about working as a team and having fun - and by this mean going to the Forest of Dean camping, playing for the girls football team and attempting to kayak. I do not think I would have gone to University and would be succeeding in what I am now doing without the support and influence of the sports team, and the best bit about it is that I still talk to them and ask for help and advice to this day.
