Develop wider skills (research, presentation) that will prepare them for work within the music industry, university and other forms of employment Gloucestershire College is one of only 20 colleges in the country with founder status with the National Skills Academy, Creative and Cultural. The academy recognises, develops and improves skills opportunities for those entering the creative and cultural sector and those already employed within it. This status means that students at Gloucestershire College get exciting opportunities to develop their employability skills and links within the industry. Our link with the skills academy offers many opportunities for our music students to watch the professionals set up the sound and lighting for the Duran Duran gig at Cardiff NIA, Rammstein and Australian Pink Floyd. By 2020 the broader performing arts and music sector is predicted to grow by more than 40%. For the industry to meet this potential the availability of a highly skilled technical workforce is fundamental. Gloucestershire College works with the skills academies to prepare learners to work within these industries

Case Studies

GC STUDENTS BRING THE HOUSE DOWN AT GLOUCESTER GUILDHALL Will, Marcello and Kate, who are all studying music at GC recently excelled with their live project, ‘Past, Present and future’, a gig they put on at the Gloucester Guildhall. The aim of the event was to showcase bands, DJs, singers and musicians over the age of 14 who are either; interested in becoming a GC student, current GC students and ex GC students who have gone on to progress in their musical careers post GC. A stunning line up of raw talent rocked the house at the Guildhall gig held on 15th March, the students secured a brilliant line-up of bands and performers of all ages for the event, even some as young as 14! The stunning selection of talented musicians included bands such as: Stereo Influence, Swift Manouver, The Acrylics, Feed the Moose and winners of the search for new talent, Strange Things Frighten Us, plus a showcase of current students at Gloucestershire College. Course Leader Lee Holder said: “We had a fantastic line-up with an audience of 350, the atmosphere was amazing. The students even had a few surprises up their sleeves for the event. Being the same day as Red Nose Day, the student organisers performed a special song at the gig as a tribute to the charity in a bid to raise money for the worthwhile cause.” The gig which was a free event raised £50 which was donated to Comic Relief.
