learners to look at all the opportunities open to them to study
music performance or media at a higher level. Additional learning
and pastoral support is offered through the tutorial system. As
part of the course students are required to demonstrate specific
literacy, numeracy and ICT skills alongside their main subject
studies. These Functional Skills will help students with their
coursework and also prepare them for further education life and
work.
The course is taught through a range of approaches designed to
provide students with the opportunity to develop technical skills
for practical applications and provide vocational real-world
experience. Emphasis is placed on kinaesthetic teaching and
learning methods, opportunities for planning, and involvement with
events are integral to the qualification. Delivery methods will
include practical workshop sessions in our recording studios,
computer music suites, rehearsal rooms and live performance spaces,
classroom-based theory sessions supported by IT and computer-based
research, real-world music industry situations (live performances,
recording sessions, record company meetings etc), educational
visits to venues, live performances and other music
industry-related work places.
A formal practical Level 1 music qualification that will give you the opportunity to study a music/music technology-related programme at Level 2. Throughout the duration of the programme students will develop a portfolio of work, improve their music business knowledge and gain skills to help them to publish their music independently and find employment, or make a successful application for a higher course. Additional learning and pastoral support is offered through tutorial support.
Experience of music and media, the ability to play a musical instrument or sing is an advantage but not a necessity. All applicants will be interviewed and will be required to either audition or present some examples of prior music/media technology work. A satisfactory reference is required.
You could progress to the Music BTEC Level 2 Diploma.
