About This Course

The Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector is a part-time programme designed to support the role of the trainer within a wide range of industry sectors. It allows trainers to study towards a professional, nationally recognised qualification leading to Associate Teacher Status. Through a series of workshops learners will develop their skills, experience and knowledge of teaching and assessing and this will be reinforced through a range of online learning experiences, research, written tasks and lesson observations.

About This Course

The Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector is a part-time programme designed to support the role of the trainer within a wide range of industry sectors. It allows trainers to study towards a professional, nationally recognised qualification leading to Associate Teacher Status. Through a series of workshops learners will develop their skills, experience and knowledge of teaching and assessing and this will be reinforced through a range of online learning experiences, research, written tasks and lesson observations.

Additional Notes

Learners will take part in a Micro-teach session which will be planned as part of the course. Learners will also be observed in their workplace on three separate occasions and must complete 30 hours of teaching over the duration of the course. It is advisable for learners to be confident with E-learning and have access to the internet. Facilities are available within college to Gloucestershire College students. For information about briefing dates please contact the Initial Teacher Training Administrator on 01242 532106. The reference to Exam (in fees section) relates to the registration fee payable to the qualification awarding body. This fee will be approximately £85. There is no formal exam to sit; assessment is achieved by successful completion of assignments.

Entry Criteria

You will need to have achieved the Preparation for Teaching in the LifeLong Learning Sector (PTLLS) qualification before you progress on to this course. If you do not have PTLLS, you will need to enrol and pay for this part of the course separately. In order to enrol you will need to confirm that you have a minimum of 30 hours teaching during the course period. You must have subject-specific qualifications at minimum of level 3 and/or professional experience in the subject which you are teaching. In addition you will need Level 2 literacy and a minimum of level 1 for numeracy and ICT with expectation to work towards level 2 You must be able to identify a mentor who will support you in the teaching of your specialist subject.

Progression Details

Learners could progress to the Certificate in Education/Postgraduate Certificate in Education or the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, depending on role development and existing qualifications.
