This course will give you a sound understanding of economics, with an additional focus on management theory and techniques, and the opportunity to apply your knowledge in an industry placement, or even an overseas exchange. An opportunity for a work placement can provide a valuable insight into the workings of the economics world, and may result in contact that can generate eventual employment opportunities. You will study economic principles and develop the skills to apply them to the activities of organisations in both the public and private sector. While the knowledge of economics that you'll acquire is quite specific, the skills you will learn will be transferable to any aspect of business, and will include time management, project management, communication, collection and management of data, and IT skills, which will serve you well whatever your eventual field of work. What's involved Based over four years, the course will involve lectures, tutorials, and independent study. In the final years of this course you may choose to specialise, in either Corporate Management, or Economics & Public Sector: Below you will find an indication of the modules you could study. These will be supplemented with choices from a course-specific option pool: Year 1 Principles of Economics; Behavioural Studies; Business Skills; Accounting for Business; Introduction to Financial Services Sector; plus one option module Year 2 Intermediate Economics; Business and Management Challenges; World Economy; plus three option modules Year 3 International Business; Business Economics; one option module; plus either work-based learning or further option modules Work Placement This optional six-month work placement in year 3 will allow you to apply your knowledge in an industry setting, providing a valuable insight into the workings of the world of economics. It may also result in contacts that can generate eventual employment opportunities.
