Introduction:
Staff in many of the company’s Functions – such as Engineering, Finance, Operations and Purchasing - are often unaware how their actions and decisions (or lack of them!) will influence the chances of ordered items arriving by the time they are needed.

This course identifies key strategies beyond simple strategies that can be adopted within (and across) various departments during the procurement & supply of equipment and materials, all aimed at achieving on-time arrival of the items.

This 3-day course addresses:

This course is designed for: middle to senior management staff who can implement new working practices in their own departments and have influence on those in other company functions – such as -
  • Technical staff who specify requirements and participate in evaluation of suppliers’ bids.
  • Procurement staff who source requirements, place and manage purchase orders.
  • Staff that develop plans for maintenance, operations and project work requiring materials & equipment.
  • Logistics staff involved in expediting supplies and arranging delivery to the company’s named location.
  • Staff in Quality & Finance functions that would benefit from understanding the root causes of delayed deliveries and increased costs.

By the End of the Course, participants will be able to:-
  • Understand the extent to which decisions taken early in the procurement process directly influence the prospects of on-time arrival of the items.
  • Recognise what they can do in their own roles that will contribute to improving on-time delivery performance.
  • Use newly learned tools & techniques in their work aimed at minimising occurrences of late delivery.

Topics covered will include:-
  • Typical reasons for late deliveries, and examination of their root causes
  • Key procurement & supply concepts including the procurement process, different procurement strategies and total cost of ownership.
  • Decisions taken in various departments at each stage in the procurement process and how they impact on delivery & supply performance.
  • Planning for on-time arrival of equipment & materials.
  • An overview of Expediting concept.
  • The need for early involvement of the Procurement function in the specifying process.

Note: Expediting tools & techniques are addressed in detail in the related course “Effective Expediting”
