Description
This Skills for Independence programme may be suitable for you if you have attended a special school or needed significant support with your learning throughout secondary school.
This course will help you to build on existing skills and develop new skills that will prepare you for greater independence in everyday life.
You spend four days per week in College and you study in a supportive environment which helps you to work more independently and grow in self esteem. You will receive a personalised timetable that will enable you to work towards goals. You gain nationally-recognised qualifications at an appropriate level for you.

- effective communication
- personal relationships
- communications, maths and ICT
- personal health and safety
- development of confidence and self esteem
- skills for independent living
Your tutor will work with you to set individual learning targets
each term and you will get feedback on your progress. You will be
assessed through creating a folder of evidence for each subject.
You will be assessed at a level that suits you.
You will learn in small classes and there will be a learning
support assistant to help you progress. We recognise that you might
need significant help to make the move from school to college so
you will have a personal tutor who will encourage and support you
along the way.
Where possible, learning will be through doing and taking part in
practical activities in and out of the college environment you will
learn new skills and improve on those that you already have. This
is a 4-day a week programme.

Certificate in Communication
Award in Maths Skills
Award in ICT Skills
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. We are looking for young people with enthusiasm to learn and a desire to make personal progress. Your offer will be subject to a successful interview an initial assessment of English and maths and, where appropriate, a successful transition period from year 11.
On successful completion of the course you may move onto other courses within the College, or go on to do voluntary work.
