- Unit 4: Explore self management, identify the importance of discipline and the effects of a lack of discipline

- Unit 5: Learn how to read different types of maps, obtain grid references and use a compass

Visits and residential trips are an integral part of the course and carry an additional cost payable when you start.

The course is based on continuous assessment over one year. The course consists of 5 units; each unit is marked and assessed as coursework. Some assignments may be integrated across the course units. Mandatory residential trips provide the opportunity to assess the practical application of outdoor activities and teamwork skills.

The course is based on continual assessment with workbooks and the teaching team will engage your leaning in many different ways. Types of learning activities will consist of group work, practical activities, putting learning into practice and visits. Visits are also made by uniformed public personnel to offer first-hand experiences.

This course provides the knowledge and understanding to enable students to take up effective employment in the area of uniformed public services. It also provided the start of a route into higher education courses.

You need a basic level of literacy and numeracy to apply for this course.

You can progress to our Level 2 Uniformed Public Services programme, or move directly into employment in the public services.

Visits and residential trips are an integral part of the course and carry an additional cost.
