If you aspire to a career in one of the uniformed military or emergency public services such as Army, Navy Royal Marines, RAF, Police, Fire, Ambulance or Prison Service in a front-line or support role then this is the course for you. These skills will help you complete your coursework and prepare for further study or employment.
Modules on this course include public services employment career
planning; public service skills; improving health and fitness for
entry to the uniformed public services; expedition skills;
adventurous activities and teamwork, Law and its impact on the
individual in public services; English Functional Skills and Maths
Functional Skills. You will also learn how to become a more
independent learner as the course will develop your analytical and
critical thinking skills as well as team working and leadership
skills.
Methods of teaching will be varied to provide motivation and
interest. DVDs, visits, speakers and activities will be used to
supplement the classroom discussions and written assignments. Team
work is key to successful completion of both activities and some
assignments. Physical exercise is provided through use of the
sports hall and on the outdoor activities. The majority of your
time will be classroom based.
You benefit from workshop facilities in a computer suite with computers that enable you to complete your course assessments. There are also open access computer resources in the library.
Four GCSE grades DE including English Language and Maths, or achievement on a Level 1 Foundation Pathway including Functional Skills at Level 1.
Employment in the uniformed public services, or similar a Level 3 course such as the Public Services BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary/Extended Diploma, or other advanced level courses.
