This is a short first aid course in Oxford which aims to train delegates up to OFSTED and PFAA standards in delivering first aid to babies and young children.

The course is 12 hours spread over two days. It gives you the first aid training, knowledge and confidence you need to deal with first aid incidents involving babies and children.

You learn the following first aid principles and how they are applied to children and babies:

• Emergency actions
• Unconscious casualties
• Non-breathing casualties
• Casualty whose heart has stopped
• Severe and minor bleeding
• Trauma
• Shock
• Burns and scalds
• Poisoning
• Bone joint and muscle injuries
• Effects of temperature

• Administration of medication and record keeping

Teaching/learning methods:
We use interactive and varied teaching methods to give you the experience you need to feel confident in dealing with first aid incidents. The delivery includes practical scenarios, videos and group work.

Assessment methods:
You will be assessed throughout the course on your ability to deal with the different types of incident we go through. There will also be a brief written test at the end of day

On successful completion of this training course you will receive a certificate for Paediatric First Aid, and will have gained confidence in your first aid skills. The certificate is valid for 3 years and can be renewed by attending a refresher course.

To do this course you need:

- a reasonable level of fitness
- to be at least 14 years old

No prior qualifications are required. Courses are restricted to 12 students. Students must be a minimum of 14 years of age.

On the day itself, all you need is a pen and a notepad.

On successful completion of the course you will be required to attend a refresher course of two days. It is recommended that you attend a three-hour refresher annually.

This course runs at our Blackbird Leys campus. Class hours are 9am until 5pm.

The course runs on 24th and 25th March, 2014.

At other times it runs on an ‘on demand’ basis – please call to register your interest or to book a group in for a training session.
