This course consists of the following:
- What first aid is & the role of the first aider
- Action planning for an emergency
- First aid kits & hygiene
- Reporting procedures
- Communicating with children & babies
Recognising & dealing with the following:
- Unconsciousness
- Non-breathing casualty
- Choking
- Asthma
- Anaphylaxis
- Blood loss & shock
- Burns & scalds, heat stroke
- Heat exhaustion & hypothermia
- Seizures, fits epilepsy & convulsions
- Fractures, sprains, strains & dislocations
- Head injuries
- Other serious conditions - sickle cell, diabetes, meningitis
- Poisons, bites & stings
- Lost permanent tooth
- Foreign body in ear, nose or eye
