CELTA teaches the principles of effective teaching, provides a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners and gives you hands-on teaching practice. PTTLS, Preparation for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector is the initial qualification for teaching in FE. You will be assessed throughout the course with no final examination. You will teach for a total of six hours, working with classes at two levels of ability. You will complete four written assignments. To be awarded the certificate you must be successful in both components.

What next

CELTA is recognised by most colleges as the initial qualification for teaching ESOL so you will be able to apply for employment on completion. PTLLS will enable you to apply for employment in the Further Education sector.

Entry requirements

Applicants for the course must be at least 20 years old, have a good standard of education (for example A'Levels, a degree or equivalent qualifications) and a very good standard of English, both written and spoken.
