5. Trips to world class studios and manufacturers What will I
Study? The final goal after two years here at Chichester, is to
produce a CD showreel that showcases your abilities and the skills
you have learned. Year One is very much about getting you familiar
with using the equipment in the recording studio and being able to
navigate your way around Synthesisers and Logic Pro. The best way
we have found to do this is by being hands-on and doing it. There
are lots of practical demonstrations and opportunities for you to
practice these skills. We also cover Music Business, Music and
Society, Keyboards Skills, Composing, Theory and Applied Harmony.
Year Two is mainly based around projects. The main one is creating
your CD showreel, whereby you will plan and organise the creation
of your own CD. Other projects include Music and Sound for
Multimedia where you will create the music and sound effects for a
short film, and Marketing and Promotion where you will be involved
in planning and organising our Chi Fest event. How will I be
Taught? The main emphasis and delivery method is the practical
hands-on approach. The main reason for this is that we feel you
learn more by doing and by making mistakes! This enables you to
think about your approach and how to improve yourself as an
engineer/ producer. There are of course class based sessions where
there will be written work involved, and where possible it is
electronic submission. This is to avoid a lot of paperwork and the
potential loss of work. How will I be Assessed? The BTEC assessment
criteria is based on Pass, Merit and Distinction. Most of it is
practical assessments that take place here at the College. There
will times where you will have to complete written work too. We
offer a first draft submission with feedback and then a final
submission. What our students say? Studying music technology at
Chichester college provided me with the right qualifications to
progress to higher education. I can confidently say that I would
not be where I am today if it wasn't for all the guys on the tech
course at Chichester. Kit Sapseid (www.creativemixing.co.uk)
