This is a progression course only.

BTEC Extended Diplomas are an ideal choice if you are keen to combine academic studies with developing your sport performance and prefer a vocational alternative to A Levels. They satisfy university entry requirements but will also prepare you for a choice of interesting and worthwhile careers in the sport and fitness industry.

The completion of a Level 3 Diploma is required (120 credits) in a relevent subject area. those with a Subsidiary Diploma (60 credits) can also apply.

- For those progressing from the 120 credit Diploma will study a further 6 units

- For those progressing from the 60 credit Subsidiary Diploma will study a further 12 units

This course provides a breadth of sports related modules, preparing for a varaiety of progression options.

Course Code: A0138 Minimum Age: 16 Course Length: One year Course Schedule: 3/4 days a week which vary due to timetabling Entry Requirements:

Completion of current Level 3 Diploma or Subsidiary Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science to merit standard.

End of year attendance of 85% or above.

Clear discipinary record.

Core Skills:

Depending on whether you have previously completed the Subsidiary Diploma (60 credits) or the Diploma (120 credits), you'll either top-up your qualification to the full Extended Diploma by studying a further 6 or 12 units.

Additional units that could be studied may include:- Sports Biomechanics In Action

- Fitness Training and Programming

- Sport and Exercise Massage

- Exercise for Specific Groups

- Work Experience in Sport

Additional study is required to complete the course which includes approximately 8-10 hours per week home-based study.

In addition to these BTEC modules additional fitness and coaching qualifications may be available (i.e. Gym Instructor, Football Coaching, Nutrition)

Assessment:

All units are internally assessed as with the Subsidiary Diploma or Diploma qualification previously studied.

Modules will draw on different assessment strategies which will include written assignments (primarily), practical assessment activities/observations presentations (individual/group), end of module tests, peer group assessments.

All students will be encouraged to achieve a minimum of 'merit' grades across all units to help with their progression either onto Higher Education, different level 3 qualifications or into the world of work.

After successful completion of this course you can progress through higher education to university courses:

- Sports Science

- Sports Studies

- Leisure Management

- Physiotherapy

- Coaching

Here at CCN we offer a Foundation Degree in Sport, Health and Exercise and a full BSc (Hons) in Applied Sport, Health and Exercise which are highly recommended.

Career Progression:

This course will prepare you for a choice of interesting and worthwhile careers in the sport and fitness industry for example:

- Teaching
- Sports Science
- Coaching
- Personal Training/Gym instruction

Course fee: There may be a course fee for those who are 19+ (please ask for more details) Costs:

As with all Sports courses there are 2 compulsary costs:

- Uniform approximately £100 (however internal progression students from the Subsidiary Diploma or Diploma can wear their old uniform)

- Resources £20.
