Full TimeThe course consists of 3 core units and 4 specialist units. these units will explore the skills needed to prepare an application to a chosen public service and also give students the opportunity to understand the role of teamwork and communication within the services. Students will also undertake practical preparation for fitness tests within the services. optional units will be selected from a range, including law and criminology, outdoor activities and expedition skills. In addition to this main programme, all students will be given the opportunity to gain the Post 16 WBQ, essential and wider skills and first aid. How you will gain the qualification
Learners will be assessed through a range of methods including written assignment, oral presentations, case studies and work related projects. Assessment on this programme is continuous and achievement can be at Pass, Merit or Distinction level. During the course, learners will benefit from visits to various public service establishments and presentations by personnel form a variety of services.
What qualifications you need
The following will be accepted as entry criteria to this Level 2
programme:
4 GCSE’s at A* - D, including English Language.
BTEC L1 sport/Public Services, supported by an improved standard
in Literacy and Numeracy eg. Agored courses, with a recommendation
from your tutor
A related L1 course supported by two GCSE's at Grade D, and an improved standard in Literacy and Numeracy eg Agored courses with a recommendation from your tutor
Where to next
The course will be an ideal base for progression onto the Level 3 Diploma in Public Services (providing the student achieves a pass to at least Merit level along with GCSE English at Grade C or Agored Level 2 English). It is also of particular benefit for individuals who wish to enter and pursue a career in the Uniformed Public Services such as: The Armed Forces; The Police Service; The Fire Service; The Ambulance Service; The Prison Service or HM Customs and Excise.
