I.T. SKILLS FOR BUSINESS
This course is aimed at the more mature learner who needs to
acquire or improve their computer skills and gain current IT
qualifications. It provides students with a good working knowledge
of the main software packages used in many administrative
roles.
The main qualification is the OCR Text Processing (Business Professional) Award/Certificate/Diploma at Levels 1/2/3. This qualification enables the learner to demonstrate their keyboarding competence to the levels required in a modern office environment. In addition to the above Diploma the following additional subjects
are also offered: Communication Skills through Business
Administration (Agored), ECDL Essentials and ECDL Extra (ITQ Level
2), Essential Skills Wales Communications Level 2, Improve Own
Learning Level 3 and a one day study session entitled Welsh in the
Workplace (Agored).
COMPULSORY WORK EXPERIENCE
Students are required to undertake work experience every Monday in a workplace to be arranged between the individual student and tutors. Additionally, there will be a 2 week block in the spring term when students will be expected to attend their allocated work place in order to experience a full-time employment situation. This element of the course is compulsory and unauthorised absences or behavioural issues will be dealt with as part of the college disciplinary procedure.
How you will gain the qualification
Assessment is by continual assessment and also by external time constrained examinations which take place throughout the year.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course and entry is at the discretion of the Programme Co-ordinator.
Where to next
This course is designed to help equip students for general administrative occupations. All students will undertake a compulsory work experience placement as part of the course to give them a chance to gain “real-life” working skills.
