Description

Who is the course for?

The module aims to provide a basic knowledge of energy management principles and techniques for use in industrial and/or commercial organisations. Students will be concerned with energy conservation, including energy conservation awareness for both the organisation and the personnel, integral to the content is environmental management, which is now becoming ever increasingly important in energy conservation.

Greater gains, both environmentally and economically, can be achieved by cutting down on waste and maximising the efficient use of energy. The principal focus for the module is in establishing and developing an energy audit in the context of a plant engineering env…

The principal focus for the module is in establishing and developing an energy audit in the context of a plant engineering environment

What will I study?

Investigate environmental management policies
• describe the environmental management policies relevant to plant engineering
• evaluate the types of energy technologies associated with plant engineering
• assess the various aspects of resource management in the context of plant engineering.

Investigate energy sources, conservation and applications
• explain the various sources of fuel likely to be encountered in industry
• describe the materials associated with energy conservation
• select and describe industrial and commercial activities where energy conservation procedures can be adopted

Determine the system and energy-saving requirements
• assess systems which will provide an energy analysis
• produce a documented system analysis relating to the energy distribution
• select and evaluate the appropriate cost-saving technique for the chosen situation.

Carry out an energy management audit and monitor the processes adopted
• select and evaluate the energy saving, using the appropriate procedure
• specify the type, size and range of metering equipment as part of the audit process
• identify the targets and parameters in monitoring the processes.

Assessment Outcomes:
At the end of these modules the student should be able to demonstrate a practical capacity to carry out the tasks listed to a commercially acceptable standard, applying principles correctly in context but may not yet have developed a deep understanding of the theoretical underpinning of the subject. Optional assessments are included.
