It is aimed at practising electricians (with 2 years experience as a minimum) who have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or have very little experience in this specific field.

What will I study?

The course covers practical and theory, related to testing of new fixed wiring electrical installations.

  • Use of testing equipment
  • Safe isolation procedures
  • Procedures outlined in guidance note 3 of the wiring regulations
  • Safety procedures associated with the operations stated
How will the course be delivered?

Through classroom based activities alongside a tutor and other delegates at a similar level.

Assessment is via a 1.5 hour online multiple choice exam and a 2 hour practical assessment.

In order to attend this course you must wear protective/strong supportive shoes. Trainers are unsuitable.

  • IET On-Site Guide BS7671-2008(2011) IET Wiring Regulations 17th Edition Incorporating Amendment No1 (green book) ISBN 978-1-84919-287-3
  • IET Guidance Note 3 Inspection & Testing 17th IET Wiring Regulations BS7671:2008 incorporating amendment No1 (orange book) ISBN 978-1-84919-275-0
Course Entry Criteria

Practising electricians who have not worked on fundamental inspection & testing since qualifying, or a newly qualified electrician, after working in other engineering disciplines or trades.

Current 17th Edition qualification (candidates must bring a copy of their certificate on the first day of the course).

To achieve this qualification, candidates must have a basic level of knowledge, understanding and experience of electrical installation either within the electrical industry or other engineering disciplines.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

  • More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
  • 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
  • 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
  • 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
  • Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

What will I get at the end of the course?

You will receive a City & Guilds Certificate upon successful completion of the training.

What can I do next?

This qualification can be used as a stepping stone before enrolling on the Inspection and Testing 2391-10 course.

How much does it cost?

This course is priced at £475.00 per delegate. Course dates (courses run from 9am-4.30pm)

Thursdays – 14th, 21st, 28th November & 5th December 2013
Thursdays – 16th, 23rd 30th January & 6th February 2014

IMPORTANT: Two additional dates will be confirmed by the tutor for your written exam and practical assessment, as they do not take place at the time of the course.

IMPORTANT we have no control over the written exam dates these are set by City & Guilds; candidates need to be registered by the 1st of the month previous to the written exam taking place.
