The Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce is for learners who are already working in the Children’s Workforce. The Diploma will guide and assess development of knowledge and skills relating to Early Learning and Childcare workforces.

You must have a current, CRB certificate, have employment in a real work environment for a minimum of 10 hours per week and have completed a relevant level 2 qualification. You must also have good levels of literacy and numeracy.

You are assessed by producing a portfolio of evidence that supports your ability and competence to work with children and young people. Each learner will be assigned an experienced, qualified assessor to assess competency in the real work environment using methods of direct observation, verbal questioning, case studies and workbooks.

QCF – Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce.
On completion of this qualification learners can progress to various job roles, dependent on their chosen pathway. The following list is not exhaustive, but indicative of the opportunities available:
Early Learning and Childcare:
This pathway is appropriate for all practitioners working in settings delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Specific job roles may include:
- playgroups workers
- children’s centres staff
- personnel in day nurseries, nursery schools and nursery or reception classes in primary schools
- registered childminders and nannies
Fees are subject to funding depending on the eligibility criteria of the individual learner.
Where will the training be delivered?At the candidate’s workplace and at Blackburn College.
The course is covered in a series of workshops where the underpinning knowledge evidence needed for the various units is covered. These workshops take place on a rolling programme and are available at different times throughout the year. The course can take between 10 – 12 months to complete. To achieve the qualification learners will need to spend some time in personal study as well as the time spent with their course advisor, tutor or Assessor. This is known as ‘learning time’.
