The Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce is for learners who wish to work in the Children and Young People’s workforce or who are already working as an assistant.
The Certificate will guide and assess development of knowledge and skills relating to Early Learning and Childcare workforces.

The Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s
Workforce:

You must have a current, CRB certificate, have a placement or employment in a real work environment for a minimum of 7 ½ hours per week and have completed a relevant level 1 qualification. You must also have good levels of literacy and numeracy.

- Contribute to the support of the positive environments for children and young people
- Understand partnership working in services for children and young people
- Paediatric emergency first aid
- Managing paediatric illness and injury
You are assessed by producing a portfolio of evidence that supports your ability and competence to work with children and young people. Each learner will be assigned an experienced, qualified assessor to assess competency in the real work environment using methods of direct observation, verbal questioning, case studies and workbooks.
What will I get at the end of the course?QCF – Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young Persons
Workforce.
This Level 2 qualification provides opportunities for progression
to further study of the CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children and
Young People’s Workforce.
Specific job roles may include:
- assistant playgroup workers
- assistants in children’s centres
- assistants in day nurseries, nursery schools and nursery classes in primary schools
- registered childminders and nannies
General opportunities:
- support workers in the above settings
- anyone who works with children and young people in the voluntary sector, including volunteers who are not covered by another sector skills body
Fees are subject to funding depending on the eligibility criteria of the individual learner.
Where will the training be delivered?At the candidate’s workplace and at Blackburn College.
The course is covered in a series of workshops where the underpinning knowledge evidence needed for the various units is covered. These workshops take place on a rolling programme and are available at different times throughout the year. The course can take between 7 – 10 months to complete.
