This course is for people who already work in a business context, those who aspire to do so or those who wish to study a higher level Business course in the future such as an MBA. This practical course has been developed to widen your knowledge of specific vocabulary within the context of work and business situations and is underpinned by a wholly communicative approach so that you are able to use the business language with confidence!
This course can lead to a variety of exciting future courses including:
- Blackburn College CMI (Chartered Management Institute) programmes (Level 5 & 7)
- HND in Business at Blackburn College
- Business related degree courses at our university and other UK universities
All of our English language courses are delivered by fully qualified language teachers (CELTA/DELTA qualified). Maximum group sizes of 15-20 students.
During the course you will develop your knowledge and language skills in the following areas:
- Presentations, negotiations and giving opinions
- Leadership/management skills (time management, managing people, etc.)
- Networking/Entertaining, using social English in a business context with confidence
- Meetings/Conferences and telephone skills
- Interview techniques (interviewee & interviewer)
- Commercial writing (SWOT Analysis, report writing, etc.)
- Business correspondence (emails, letters, etc.)
- Recruitment, job profiles & descriptions, job satisfaction
- Advertising, Marketing and pitching ideas
- Working successfully in cross cultural environments
Assessment
You will be assessed regularly during the course and your progress is monitored by your tutors in class and during tutorial time. All students will receive a Blackburn College Certificate and a final report on progress and course content at the end of the course. You will also be able will work towards the internationally recognised BEC (Cambridge Business English Certificate). This only applies to students completing 12 weeks or more)

Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirement for this course is IELTS 4.5.
Length of Course
The full duration of the course is 16 weeks. You can choose to study a minimum of 2 weeks. 21st January 2013 – 10th May 2013
(Where bank holidays fall, the session will take place in an afternoon slot of the same week)
Cost of Course
International Students – £160 per week
Home fees (EU students) – £90 per week
Full 16 week course cost:
International students – £2560
Home students – £1440
(This includes tuition, classroom materials, resources via our Virtual Learning Environment. Prices do not include accommodation, food or social activities).
