Essential Diploma in Complementary Therapies

These Level 2 qualifications are basic vocational qualifications which focus on the development of the underlying principles and practical skills required within the complementary therapies sector. This qualification is ideal as an introduction to a variety of Complementary therapies.

Course content

This is a Level 2 qualification which allows one to acquire the knowledge and the skills required for a variety of treatments / services at Level 2 only. The units included in this qualification are shown below. To achieve full certification all eight units must be completed

• Unit 201 - Introduction to Principles and Practices for Complementary Therapies
• Unit 202 - Introduction to Clinic Services and Business Awareness for Complementary Therapies
• Unit 203 - Health, Safety and Hygiene in Complementary Therapies
• Unit 204 - Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology for Complementary Therapies *
• Unit 205 - Provide Basic Massage Techniques for Complementary Therapies
• Unit 206 - Provide Basic Aromatherapy Techniques
• Unit 207 - Provide Basic Reflexology Techniques
• Unit 209 - Introduction to Healthy Eating and Well being for the Complementary Therapy Client
• Delivery of this unit may also include elements of units 303 & 304 (Level 3)

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, although a mature approach to training and education is required as is a good understanding of written and spoken English along with a minimum of two references. It will also be necessary to attend a pre-enrolment interview, literacy & numeracy assessment and a pre-course assignment from Unit 201. It is also necessary to purchase a college uniform prior to the commencement of the course. Please note that this is a practitioner qualification which requires full commitment to attendance and achievement. A minimum of 8 – 10 hours per week needs to be set aside for home study.

Delivery & Assessment methods

Assessment is on-going throughout the length of the course taking the form of practical observations, research tasks, reports, presentations, assignments, case studies and online multiple choice knowledge tests. Samples of work are Internally Verified (IV) on a regular basis and are also Externally Verified (EV) by an assessor from the awarding body. Notice of External Verifiers visits will be given and, if necessary, you may be required to attend a meeting with the EV which could be outside your normal college attendance hours

Progression

The units within this qualification provide generic service skills, so that upon their successful completion one would be well prepared for a variety of progression courses in particular the Level 3 Diploma in Complementary Therapies, Aromatherapy, Body Massage or Reflexology.
