Course content
The course comprises of core and common option modules plus a range of specialist human resource management/development option modules. The modules develop many of the themes studied at Level 3 to a greater depth and provide a firm grounding in the academic skills that graduates would have acquired while studying for a degree. The course includes the following subject areas
- Developing professional practice
- Business issues and the contexts of human resources
- Using information in human resources
- Contemporary developments in human resource development
- Managing and coordinating the human resources function
- Employment law
Although the course content is delivered in the classroom the emphasis is on the application of the theory, knowledge and skills into the workplace. Your employer will benefit as you progress throughout the course from your increasing awareness of the business environment in which the management and development of human resources takes place, and from the coursework you undertake as part of the programme.
Entry Requirements
The CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management is aimed at students who have completed Level 3 Foundation courses, for example CIPD Certificate in Human Resource Practice (CHRP) or equivalent and who have some relevant workplace experience. Candidates holding a UK first degree or an equivalent in a non-related subject will also find the Level 5 Certificate useful when preparing to study for a postgraduate-level HRM qualification.
Delivery & Assessment methods
Continuous assessment is used throughout the course by a variety of written assignments, skills activities and workplace evidence. Towards the end of the course students will be required to attend one Saturday workshop.
Progression
The qualification you will achieve if you are successful is the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management or Human Resource Development. It is possible to enrol for further modules to top-up a Level 5 Intermediate Certificate qualification to a Level 5 Intermediate Diploma qualification. This may be an attractive option for those students who wish to continue their studies at this level but do not feel ready to progress to a post-graduate level of study. Modules for both certificates equate to 32 credits at Level 5 on the new QC Framework. Once you have successfully completed the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate you will be eligible to progress to the Level 7 CIPD Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in HRM.
