Introduction

This is the second year of the BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts. This course is designed to provide practical experience in a range of performance forms such as contemporary acting, musical theatre, plays, script writing, physical theatre, performing with masks, mime and directing. Introduction

Meanwhile regular workshops, from external companies such as Frantic Assembly, will help to develop your movement skills.

What Will I Learn

The programme itself runs as a production company, working through a series of performances throughout the year. Within these, you will study rehearsal techniques, learn about the theatre business and explore approaches to classical and contemporary performance. You will be taught by experienced staff with excellent academic and professional qualifications in specialised performing facilities. If you are a keen performer of drama and interested in a career in the performing arts, this course will enable you to develop your interest.

How Will I Be Assessed?

The course is continually assessed with grades of Pass, Merit or Distinction being awarded in each different unit of study (subject). A triple final grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction will be awarded upon completion of all necessary units, for example DDD, MMM, DDM etc. There are no exams although you may have to sit tests to ensure that you gain your Functional Skills qualifications.

Entry Requirements

Completion of the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts, year one.

Additional Information

Additional cost: Studio fee of £150 at enrolment. The fee includes a your basic uniform, funding for trips and external workshops by theatre and dance professionals used within the course.

Progression

You could move on to a Degree or other Higher Education programme in the same or related sector or move on to employment within the Performing Arts industry.

Career Opportunities

You will be able to work in the Arts, Theatre in the Community, Teacher Training (post university) or Drama Therapy.
