Introduction

The aim of this course is to develop interest in, appreciation and knowledge of film, specifically through studying film and film's producers and audiences, and to provide you with a foundation in the analysis of film, together with subject specialist language.

On this course you will learn the basic toolkit necessary for analysing films at both a macro and micro level, discussing such aspects as mise en scène, performance, sound, editing and cinematography. The aim of this course is to develop interest in, appreciation and knowledge of film, specifically through studying film and film's producers and audiences, and to provide you with a foundation in the analysis of film, together with subject specialist language.

What Will I Learn

On this course you will learn the basic toolkit necessary for analysing films at both a macro and micro level, discussing such aspects as mise en scène, performance, sound, editing and cinematography. There is also theoretical content on producers and spectators, a stardom case study on Ewan McGregor and a comparative film study. In addition, you will produce practical work, underpinned by theory and pre-production materials, improving their planning and evaluative skills.

  • FM1: Exploring Film Form
  • FM2: Producers and Audiences (British and American Film; British films and Stars; Comparative Film Study)

How Will I Be Assessed?

The course is split between an exam and coursework (50% each).

Entry Requirements

You will have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language.

Additional Information

There is 4 hours of class contact per week plus independent learning.

Progression

After you have completed the course, you can progress onto A2 Film Studies.
