Introduction

In this course, there will be opportunities to explore language use within a specific field. You are encouraged to explore language use within specific contexts with which you are familiar or have an interest. Recent studies have focused on speech development in children, rhetorical devices in President Obama's recent speeches and the specific language use in Air Traffic Control.

What Will I Learn

You will study the development of the English Language from Old English in the fourth century to Late Modern English and the development of speech by young children and how we all acquire the ability to use language.

How Will I Be Assessed?

You will carry out coursework throughout the course and sit a final examination.

Entry Requirements

You will require 5 GCSE results at Grade C or above, which must include English Language, are required as is a Grade D or above in AS English Language.

Additional Information

There will be 2 classes every week, lasting 2 hours each, plus additional study as directed by the course leader (up to four hours each week).

Progression

This course carries UCAS points for progression to university.
