A2 English Literature covers a range of set texts from different
genres. Texts studied for coursework are Othello, Atonement and a
text of own choice. Texts for exam are to do with the theme of
journeys and are Andrea Levy's Small Island, Caryl Phillips The
Final Passage and Geoffrey Chaucer's The General Prologue to the
Canterbury Tales. Students are required to compare and contrast
texts from different genres and appreciate the contexts in which

5. Interactive and dynamic lessons involving group and pair
activities. What will I Study? You will study a range of set texts
as outlined in the description of the course. Unit 4 is a
coursework folder that demonstrates the ability to form coherent
arguments, examine literary techniques, compare and contrast texts
and appreciate the contexts in which the texts were written. Unit 3
is based upon a written examination which tests the above as well
as commenting on an unseen poem. How will I be Taught? You have 4.5
hours in class each week split between 2 lessons. Emphasis is
placed on discussion and activities to do with set texts though
occasional lecture- style delivery features in lessons. Discussion
is divided into whole class discussion and pair/ small groups. How
will I be Assessed? The course is comprised of 40% coursework and
60% exam. There are fornightly set micro essays and there are
regular mock exams/ timed assessments in the exam period. What our
