Description
This series of tutorials is designed to complement the sociolinguistics and anthropology taught during the Assignment Related Training course.
It is therefore aimed primarily at those who have:
- taken ART training and
- completed a field internship or
- have at least some field experience.
The course or its equivalent is required for those wishing to serve with SIL in a role beyond that of internship.
Participants should further expect to:
- come to these tutorials with notes and observations that they can discuss with their tutors;
- engage in guided reading in the subject areas;
- relate this reading to their experience and produce a brief research paper.

It can also be taken as part of our MA Field Linguistics (Diploma Discourse module) or MA Literacy Programme Development (Diploma Planning, Societal Dimensions and Multilingual Education module).
These tutorials may exceptionally also be taken by those who have completed the Assignment Related Training (ART) course and wish to continue with a full year of training before going overseas.
It will be necessary for such students to engage in research of the area where they expect to work overseas.
